Freeformers is a new series streaming on the Noteworthy Freeform channel, hosted by Jon Langford.
A native of Wales who moved to Chicago in the early ‘90s, Jon is best known as a founding member of the UK punk band, the Mekons and the alt-country ensemble, the Waco Brothers. In addition to his recorded body of work, and his dynamic live performances on stages and at festivals around the world, Jon is also a respected painter and graphic designer.

Although the Freeform channel on Noteworthy prides itself on its vast spectrum of curated, un-hosted music streaming 24/7, each Freeformers show will enable our audience to experience Jon’s encounters with guests from the music/media/arts universe. In addition to their spontaneous, entertaining conversations, each guest will play music from their personal collections.

In December, Jon did the premiere edition of Freeformers solo; he barricaded the studio door and devoted the entire program to a sampling of his favorite records, including many of his own. He told great stories and described some of the artists he enjoys and reveres the most. Following that “One Jon” show, Freeformers will welcome our first guest this Wednesday, January 17:
John Soss is one of the most respected and supportive members of the Chicago music community.
John has always been a passionate and active fan of live and recorded music.  In addition to his longevity as marketing director for JAM Productions, where he started as a college intern, John has distinguished himself as a freelance essayist for the Chicago Tribune, as well as a connoisseur of obscure Christmas recordings, having co-hosted or appeared on dozens of Christmas-centric radio shows over the years. More recently, John has established a following as a Midwestern beach-comber, for his acclaimed “On the Beach” series of photos of his imaginative assemblage/collages of found objects washed up along the shoreline of Lake Michigan.

After several years of posting these photos on his Facebook and Instagram (@heysossman) pages, John has recently been exhibiting his work in local galleries. You’ll seldom have the chance to meet someone as knowledgeable, personable and modest as John Soss. He’s a true inspiration, and literally a role model to those who know him. He has some wonderful stories to share and some incredible music to play for us!
