She’s not the first violinist who’s played with a rock band. But if you’re from Chicago or Austin, she is undoubtedly the ONE violinist who has stood out during the past 30 years or so – Susan Voelz, the second most identifiable member of Poi Dog Pondering. She has toured, recorded and performed live with a wide range of artists, from Alejandro Escovedo and John Mellencamp to Sufjan Stevens. She’s written a book about life on the road, and she’s currently the President of the Recording Academy’s Chicago Chapter.
