Hey dolls, buckle up for an absolutely thrilling episode of Pamela Des Barres' Pajama Party! Today, we're diving into the fabulously wild world of Don Preston, the rock legend from the Mothers of Invention. Picture this: it's the swinging '60s, and Don is grooving with the Mothers from '66 to '74. It's a rollercoaster of touring, making epic music, and those crazy behind-the-scenes stories that only a band like the Mothers could have. But wait, there's more! Don's got these killer personal tales, like his adventurous youth in Europe and learning the piano from his cool musician dad. Fast forward to now, and guess what, dolls? Don's still got that rock and roll fire burning inside him! In his 90s and he's still cranking out new tunes, working on a hot new CD with Chris Garcia and jamming with his longtime pal, Bunk Gardner. It's like, this guy's life is a rock anthem that just won't quit! Tune in and get ready for a trip down memory lane, mixed with a dash of now, all rolled into one electrifying journey. It's all about living and breathing music, baby, and Don Preston is here to show us how it's done, Mother style! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Hey dolls! I just had the absolute delight of chatting with the one and only Johnny Hickman on my latest episode of Pamela Des Barres' Pajama Party! If you're a fan of authentic, rock and roll storytelling, this episode is a treasure trove. Johnny, the wildly talented lead guitarist and founding member of Cracker, is not just a musical genius but a beacon of positivity. We've been Facebook friends for a while, and I finally got to delve into his world beyond the screen – and what a world it is! Johnny opened up about his journey in the music industry, from his early piano lessons to his days with Cracker and beyond. He shared heartwarming anecdotes about his childhood, his foray into music, and the many ups and downs of a life spent on the road. With stories of rock shows as a teenager and his experiences with legendary musicians, Johnny's life is a rock and roll saga that you just can't miss. Plus, his optimistic outlook on life, despite the challenges, is both inspiring and uplifting. But the real highlight? The music, of course! Johnny graced us with some fantastic performances, including tracks from his solo work and Cracker hits. His storytelling through music is as compelling as his tales, offering a glimpse into the heart and soul of a true rock and roll survivor. And dolls, let me tell you, his voice and guitar skills are as captivating as ever. So, if you're craving some insider rock stories, life lessons from the road, or just some darn good music, tune into this episode of Pamela DeBar's Pajama Party. Johnny Hickman's journey is a testament to the enduring power of rock and roll, and his story is one that every music lover needs to hear. Catch the full episode for an unforgettable ride through the life of a rock legend. You're gonna have a ball, I promise! Remember to follow, like, and subscribe for more rockin' episodes. This episode is a delightful twist, as I, your favorite host, switch roles and get interviewed by the fabulous Sie Sie Benhoff. Prepare for an emotional rollercoaster as I share the juicy details of my latest project – the heartwarming and intimate 'American Girl,' a book chronicling the 25-year love story between Jane Petty and rock legend Tom Petty. It's been four years in the making, and I'm spilling all the behind-the-scenes stories you're dying to hear! Dive deep with us into my colorful life – from my iconic Playboy shoot to my profound spiritual connections with legends like James Dean and Bobby D. I've wanted to have Sin on my couch for my pajama party and it finally happened! His musical history is a fascinating  journey that is ongoing and surprising.  (15 years with Ministry!) I think he's the only guitarist I've known (besides Mr Zappa) who has never touched drink or drugs, which is true rebellion, right?

My guest this week is Lyndsey Parker. We have been friends for a long time, and I'm thrilled to say that her latest book which she co-authored, the autobiography of legendary muse and former GTOs member Mercy Fontenot, "Permanent Damage: Memoirs of an Outrageous Girl", is not only just incredibly well written, but the nods from the press and readers have been sensational ! We speak about Mercy's last few years helping Lyndsey get the book together, and of course the funny stories that went along with it.

Lyndsey is the music editor at Yahoo Entertainment and host of the daily SiriusXM Volume show Volume West and Rhino Records' podcast series Totally '80s. Considered an expert in music and pop culture, Parker is an Online Journalism Award nominee and has written for Elle, MOJO, Rolling Stone, NME, and Guitar. She is a regular commentator on AXS TV’s The Top Ten Revealed and has appeared in the Netflix documentary The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story and the A&E documentary I Want My MTV, as well as on VH1's Behind the Music, CNN, MTV, The Insider, and Good Day L.A.

Tune in now as we speak about all things Rock and Roll.

I'm beside myself to finally get this guy on my podcast! What a long and colorful music history ! I met Howard Kaylan when he and Mark Volman we're "Flo & Eddie" in the Mothers of Invention. Always a big fan of the Turtles, I was crazy about their voices, and one of my fave memories is when Howard had me stand on the side of the stage as they sang those gorgeous back-ups to Hungry Heart with Springsteen!. I'm definitely having him back for another round.

Welcome Alex!

Alex Winter is a director, writer and actor who has worked across film, television and theater.

Winter entered show business as a child actor with co-starring roles on Broadway in The King & I and Peter Pan, and came to prominence in movies such as Warner Bros’ hit The Lost Boys and the wildly popular Bill & Ted franchise. As a filmmaker, Winter’s narrative features include the cult classic Freaked, for 20th Century Fox and the critically acclaimed Fever, for Lionsgate, which screened in the Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes.

I was lucky to be part of the just completed. Zappa, the first all-access documentary on the life and times of Frank Zappa. The Kickstarter campaign for this project was the highest funded documentary in crowdfunding history. Zappa was released on November 27 from Magnolia Pictures to widespread critical acclaim. A Critics Pick in the New York Times, Zappa was nominated for Best Music Documentary by the Critics Choice Awards.

Today is a very special show, with my sweet Moon Zappa. One of my greatest joys was being the 'Governess' to both Moon and Dweezil at the Zappa home. I share a very close bond with all of the Zappa children, and we have remained close after all these years.

Moon is an incredible author, singer/songwriter, actress, comedian, tea maker, and the list goes on and on.

She is currently working on writing a very deep and personal memoir.

Boy do we have a lot of stories to share, and I love her so much!

Take a listen.

Iva Turner is my longest running friend. We met in 4th grade and have been friends ever since.

We were Beatlemaniacs together, and hit the Sunset strip together while still in high school.

She’s a writer, editor and actress and we still hang out all the time!

I can't wait for you to hear the stories from our youth and then some. Crazy, incredible, truly mindblowing adventures. This is where it all began...

Welcome to Pamela Des Barre’s Pajama Party! Join Miss P as she welcomes guitarist extraordinaire Brian Ray!  Known for almost twenty years now as one of the two axe-men (he’s the blonde) in Sir Paul McCartney’s tour band. Incredibly that's only one name in Brian's mind blowing career with many musical greats. Brian's career and his stories about how he got there will leave you wanting more. Pamela and Brian have known each other for many years, in fact Brian once played in a summer band with Michael Des Barres, which is how they first met. Having been friends now for many years, this was a very easy pajama party. This was an incredible hang. Kick back, relax and enjoy the show.Guitarist Brian Ray’s extraordinary career has been a real-life rock & roll fantasy. Brian has the rare distinction of having worked at no other profession but music his entire adult life - and he has played alongside some legendary musicians in the process. He was Etta James Musical Director for 14 years, worked with Smokey Robinson and the illustrious list goes on and on. Ray does like to venture away from his regular gig by writing, recording and producing music for himself and others.  Most importantly, Brian Ray has a brand new Album out, released through Little Steven Van Zandt's Record Label, Wicked Cool Records, Titled "Pirate Radio". Miss Pamela is visited by her former boyfriend American singer-songwriter and musician Mike Stinson. A native of Virginia, Mike Stinson moved to Los Angeles in 1991. Inspired by the country rock of Gram Parsons, as well as more traditional country artists such as Johnny Cash and George Jones, he began to write songs and eventually formed his own band.

Kick back with Mike on the couch as he plays a private show for Miss Pamela and for you, including this great setlist:

Draw the LineLate Great Golden StateCounting my Lucky StarsLove Came to MeBox I Take to WorkYou Don't Get Nothing DoneBeauty Queen Eyes

Despite her infamy as “the World’s Most Famous Groupie” or “Queen of the Groupies,” Pamela Des Barres has many other facets, fascinations and unique talents. Known mostly for her heady dalliances and friendships with classic rock’s elite dandies in the 60s and 70s, she presciently kept copious diaries about those madcap revolutionary days and nights. Pamela has written four books, I’m With the Band, Take Another Little Piece of My Heart, (autobiographies) Rock Bottom: Dark Moments in Music Babylon, and most recently, Let’s Spend the Night Together: Backstage Secrets of Rock Muses and Supergroupies.

She has been teaching ongoing women’s writing workshops in Los Angeles and all over the country for twelve years, inspiring like-minded dolls to share their desire, stories and ideas in a totally safe environment. She calls these writing parties “Groupie Therapy.” And as an ordained minister, Pamela performs unique one-of-a-kind rock & roll weddings!

She calls these writing parties “Groupie Therapy.” And as an ordained minister, Pamela performs unique one-of-a-kind rock & roll weddings!
